Psychotherapy or counseling?
The choice is fairly easy, contrary to what one may assume, if you understand one simple rule: psychotherapy is a process of treatment. On the other hand counseling means temporary support when, for example, looking for help in a situation that, in an unusual manner, caused temporary problems for you, when somebody else suddenly became the cause of your problems or if you have found yourself in need of an opinion given by a specialist.
Counseling sessions are also an opportunity to take a look at the way the psychotherapist works. During these sessions you can see for yourself, if that form of help appeals to you.
You may also check if you are okay with the formal side and rules of psychodynamic psychotherapy. What is most important? - you should gain understanding of whether it is something you are looking for.
